There are some distinct disadvantages of arable land resources in China. Not only the lower quality and the inefficient use of cultivated land, but also the constantly dwindling of it, greatly impacts the development of agriculture economy. In order to improve the quality of agricultural products, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of arable land use by increasing the primary products in a reasonable way. Thus, we can maximize the potential of arable land in China. If we want to cultivate the land in an efficient and scientific way, we must grasp more information both on soil and soil quality. At present, the research on the effective use of arable land in China has made great process. For example, both the farmland fertility evaluation based on AHP and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and the efficient arable land cultivation technology based on soil testing and fertilizer recommendation provide reasonable technical supports on improving the quality of arable land in China. In this paper, we created an information system of arable land resources in Yongji City by ArcGIS Engine component technology and ArcSDE storage technology. We also discussed the basic principles of system development after the explanation of different concepts, such as the principles and characteristics of component-based system development, the advantages and characteristics of ArcGIS Engine secondary development and the advantages of the ArcSDE spatial database engine. Then we unified and standardized the spatial and attribute information of arable land resources and stored these information in the database by ArcSDE. By ArcGIS Engine, we also built the inquiry system of arable land resources information. This inquiry system consists of spatial query subsystem, attribute query subsystem, the cultivated land fertility evaluation query subsystem and other auxiliary subsystems. This system is developed for those non-professional users. The simple and elegant interface design makes the query an easy thing for them. Users can have a qualitative understanding of evaluation information of arable land fertility by the query of spatial information, attribute information, and fertility degree information of cultivated lando We hope providing a base that can guide the users for a scientific planting habits and can support the further study of scientific planting.
