With the development of the automobile market in China recent years, Chineseautomobile sales volume ranked the champion position several times globally. Under thisbackground, in order to extend the capacity, reinforce the geographical influence and keepthe market share, many automobile OEMs have built up new offsite factories.This essay takes the leading automobile joint venture FAW-Volkswagen as example,and researches the offsite factory’s supplier quality management after the new factory is builtup, so that the target of improving parts’ quality can be achieved. As one of the mostexcellent automobile joint venture, FAW-Volkswagen’s experience not only guides theenterprises which plan new factories, but also transfer experience to the supplier qualitymanagement for offsite factories.In the preliminary part, general introduction to quality, quality management, supplierand supplier quality management is showed. The quality management already has over100year’s foundation. As the very important step of supplier chain, researches about suppliermanagement also exist for long, as well as the supplier quality management. Nevertheless,research about supplier quality management for new offsite factories is still blank area.In the second part, new offsite factory’s supplier characteristics is stated, such as lack ofmanagement experience and technical support, decision-making power is too low. Then sixFAW-Volkswagen’s offsite factory supplier quality management methods are described,including supplier module management, supplier measurement and experiment management,parts quality control of supplier, supplier management, parts quality problem managementand core problem escalation management.In the third part, combined with practical working experience, the author raisesquestions about supplier module management, supplier measurement and experimentmanagement, parts quality control of supplier, supplier management, parts quality problemmanagement as well as core problem escalation management. In the aspect of suppliermodule management, suppliers don’t put important value on the module management,module management staff’s competence is relatively low, module maintenance and repaircan’t be ensured. In the aspect of supplier measurement and experiment management, thestaff’s competence is not qualified, the facilities can’t meet the requirement, guideline does not exist, standard experiment method is not used, and facilities are not maintained andcalibrated regularly. For the parts quality control of supplier, suppliers can’t master theproduct standard precisely, part manufacturing process is unstable. In the part of suppliermanagement, supplier’s management level is low and lack of improvement motivation. Asfor the parts quality problem management, some problems are not solved according to thestandard process or not perfect enough. For the core problem escalation management, theimportant problems are not escalated, problems are not100%showed to OEM.In the fourth part, combined with management knowledge, strategies based onFAW-Volkswagen’s offsite factory supplier quality management are recommended. In theaspect of supplier module management, suppliers need to enhance the importance of module,improve module management staff’s competence, make maintenance plan and improvemodule capacity. In the part of supplier measurement and experiment management, improvesupplier measurement staff’s competence and reduce staff turnover, measurement facilitiesneed to meet the standard, clear and efficient measurement management guideline needs tobe implemented, use standard method for experiments, maintain and calibrate facilitiesregularly. In the part of parts quality control of supplier, parts quality standard benchmarkingmakes supplier’s parts standard identical with OEM standard requirement, improve supplierproduction process stability. As for supplier measurement, improve supplier’s personnelmanagement level, reinforce high level management’s motivation to optimize. In the part ofparts quality problem management, reasonable judgment needs to be done, solve partsquality problem according to the standard process, go into detail when implementingproblem management standard process. As for the core problem escalation, every step needsto be strictly controlled, escalation of valuable problem is recommended, and problems needto be100%showed to OEM.In the end, the research leads to the following conclusion: first of all, new offsitefactory needs to be forward-thinking when managing its suppliers. Secondly, new offsitefactory should attach importance to supplier’s management ability. Thirdly, new offsitefactory parts quality problem management and escalation should obey the lean managementprinciple.
