Since the reform and opening up, China has created a miracle of economic recovery, butthe rapid economic development depends on the amount of energy put into this extensivedevelopment model in the achievement of economic growth but also caused environmentalpollution, lack of resources, such as global warming or even a series of problems. At present,China’s economic development is facing double output conversion difficulties that lack ofenergy and ability, the government has put attention on these problems, and have issued aseries of policy documents to promote energy conservation work in the twelve five-Year Plan.During the “Twelfth Five-Year” period, the government formulated target to2015, theaverage annual energy consumption per unit of GDP by16%. With the decomposition ofenergy-saving targets, all regions are facing pressures, in2010China’s logistics industrystandard coal consumption of261million tons, ranking second in the same period, afterranking the manufacturing sector. Logistics industry is facing unprecedented energy-savingpressure. Research is both a positive response to the national policy for energy efficiency inthe logistics industry and the only way to achieve energy efficiency goals. The overall number of studies on energy efficiency in the logistics industry at native andabroad is not too much, and the contents are scattered. Foreign research focused on thetechnical level to improve energy efficiency in the provision of technology solutions;domestic research of logistics industry is more relative with energy efficient, starting from alow-carbon, green and sustainable development perspectives on energy efficiency andlow-carbon logistics, green logistics relations. It’s broadly proposed to improve the energyefficiency of modern logistics. Calculating energy efficiency on the logistics industry is less incurrent academic research, just a few documents analysis productivity efficiency instead ofenergy efficiency, which means confusing the concept of productivity and energy efficiency.“What factors affect the energy efficiency of the logistics industry” and “How to improveenergy efficiency” are impossible to answer if people can not grasp the whole situation ofChina’s logistics industry. Based on the above situation, this paper with the problem-driventhinking way studies on the energy efficiency of the logistics industry.Firstly, to answer the question “What is energy efficiency”. The definition of energyefficiency in related research is not clear enough, productivity and efficiency somewhatconfusing. So this paper distinguishes the concept of efficiency in productivity, build a threekinds of energy-efficient models based on total factor.Secondly, to answer the question “How to calculate the energy efficiency”. Analyzing thetrend of energy efficiency of China’s logistics industry since2000through logistics industrypanel data between2000and2011of30provinces.Thirdly, to answer the question “What factors affect the energy efficiency of logistics industry”. To solve this question, this paper firstly analysis the possible factors influencing theenergy efficiency of logistics. Then set these possible factors as independent variable, and setenergy efficiency which measured by DEA model as dependent variable, to build Tobitregression model. Through eviews6.1, this paper find the factors that influence energyefficiency of domestic logistics.
