Performance appraisal is a process and method to assess and evaluate the staff’s working behavior and job performance, which will positively guide the staff in work.Laboratory technicians are important parts of the research team. Performance assessment promoted the laboratory research construction. Effective and reasonable performance evaluation system will improve laboratory management efficiency, motive the working staff, and promote the output of scientific research. Great theoretical and practical significance has been made in the performance appraisal research both here and abroad. But little study directed to standardize the performance appraisal policy of the laboratory technician.With the development of science and technology, the technical team is growing stronger day by day. It is necessary to design and establish an effective and scientific method evaluating the performance of laboratory staff according to their characteristics. The purpose of this study is to build a performance appraisal system for laboratory technicians. It is important for the assessment and management of those experiment technicians.Basing on the literature analysis and the actual survey, we build a set of performance appraisal system for experiment technicians by analyzing their job contents and characteristics.The performance evaluation indicator system is established based on KPI (Key Performance Indicator) and AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method according to the lab technician’s job duty. They were designed respectively which include the weight calculation method, score standard and the performance appraisal chart, which build the lab technician’s performance appraisal system.Finally, our study was used to evaluate and assess the performance of duties in department of nucleic acid of the Beijing Institute of Genomics, CAS as an indicator of annual evaluation. Through case analyzing, an actual application example was built. From the results, the assessment system provided a good analysis based on the lab technician’s duty. Proposing that the performance appraisal has systematic, pertinence and applicable.
