Impact Of Yen’s Appreciation On Import And Export

The exchange rate is always one of the most important variables in international trade. As the most developed country, Japan’s economic growth has enjoyed a different development experience than any other Asian countries. After the Plaza Accord, a huge rise in the Yen, and the rapid growth in economics, which has brought the golden age of economics. However, as the came of the bubble economy, the economy suffered a great loss and the economy development were not able to get up after a long time. At present, China is also suffering the same appreciation and difficulties as Japan has suffered before.The people’s Bank of China has reformed the RMB exchange rate in July 21st,2005, the yuan was pegged to the dollar before, but now it has changed to that is based on market supply and demand、with the reference to a basket of currencies,a new management floating exchange rate system. However, after the rate reform, even that the voice from the international community which enforce the Yuan appreciation has never stopped. In addition, most currencies has depreciated during the 2008 financial crisis, which impacted the RMB exchange rate formation mechanism once again. In this case, how to alleviate the outside pressure which the other countries has put on the RMB appreciation、reduce the negative effect for the macro economy due to the appreciation and to guide the reform of RMB exchange rate system develop healthy and orderly, which has become an important issue the government and academic circles should face with. This paper tries to set out from the perspective of comparative study, through the analysis and sum the experiences and lessons of the effect to Japanese import and export trade due to Yen exchange rate, and then put forward corresponding suggestions on Chinese import and export trade under the background of RMB exchange rate changing.In this paper, through the view of the appreciation of the yen in the process, it has summarized the reason for Yen’s appreciation which came from domestic and foreign countries. In this paper, it make an investigation of the relationship between the Yen’s appreciation and import and export trade, the conclusion is that the Yen’s appreciation do have an effect on Japan’s import and export trade. The Yen’s appreciation is not the main reason which causes the change of import and export trade. This paper analyses the countermeasures which been made by Japan government and enterprise. At last, through the comparison the difference of appreciation between China and Japan,this paper make some suggestions to the reform of RMB exchange rate.
