The hotel industry in China was one of the first industries to enjoy the benefits of China’s reform and opening-up policy which was launched in 1980s. As a service sector, hotel industry has experienced from infancy to soaring growth in past three decades. However, comparing with matured century-old hotel groups in developed countries we still has a long way to go in terms of business management and in particular, human resources management. The industry has become aware of these problems and an increasing number of hotels endeavor to raise level of management by pouring resources in research and analysis. As a result, a few hotel groups with excellent business management such as Jinjiang and Jinling have emerged. As Wuhan’s economy develops over the years, the number of hotels has been growing steadily and human resources management has come into the spot light. In this paper, we will analyze the current status of human resource management in Wuhan downtown hotels and propose effective measures to promote development of human resource management in Wuhan hotels.Describe the purpose and summarize major research findings across worldExplain the significance of human resources management in hotel industry and analyze the factors affecting human resource managementDiscuss current conditions of human resources management in Wuhan downtown hotelsResearch and analyze the opportunities and challenges faced by human resources management in Wuhan downtown hotelsPropose recommendations to achieve an efficient management structure, a people-centric environment, useful training, fair performance evaluation and effective motivation policyThis paper provides an in-depth analysis on the opportunities and challenges human resources management in Wuhan downtown hotels is facing, and makes feasible suggestions to tackle these problems, hence improve and enhance the overall development of human resources management in Wuhan hotels.
