At present China is making great efforts in the construction of new urbanization. New urbanization, is a people-centered urbanization. The ultimate goal of developing the new urbanization is to improve the life of people and allow people to enjoy high-quality services. Small towns play an important role in connecting urban and rural areas, therefore promoting rural development can provide employment opportunities and enhance domestic demand. Such an enhancement plays an important role in new urbanization in our country. In June of 2010, Majia town was selected as one of the first group of pilot towns within Quanzhou city to undergo comprehensive reform, and it has been 5 years since Majia town began the reform. This article attempts to study the achievements and problems of Majia town from the perspective of local residents satisfactory. The main research findings are as follows:(1) according to the analysis of currently small town construction in Majia Town, many achievements were made. These include the improvement of town functions, a steady economic growth, the improvement of living environment and the advancement of social undertakings. (2)Through the collection of Majia town residents satisfaction for all aspects of the construction of small towns by a questionnaire survey and the weight of each index determined by AHP and Delphi, the overall satisfaction (63.10%) of town residents for the construction of small town was obtained, indicating a basic satisfaction from the local residents on the small-town construction. (3) According to the summary of the residents’ satisfaction questionnaire survey, many problems were found in Majia town. These include the single-source industrial structures, few employment opportunities, insufficient efforts in educational development, and imperfect pension system, etc. In order to solve these problems, several policy suggestions that would help the construction of new Majia town were provided, e.g. utilization of Majia’s strengths, promoting industrial development; provision of job training, encouraging residents entrepreneurship; an increased investment in education, raising the level of educational development; establishment of sound pension system. |
