It is a common phenomenon that some of the research teams, which possess the same personnel background and resources can achieve high innovation performance but others cannot. After the investigation, usually, harmonious teams earn an obvious edge over their competitors by reaching higher performance. Because of the mistrust, team members may be mutually suspicious or have a bias, they cannot open up to each other, thus leading to communication barriers; obstructing the knowledge sharing among the members; posing bad impacts on improving the overall level of the team; and in the final, obstructing the entire team which could have better performance. Similarly, setting up hospital research team aims to discuss medical issues, solve problems of clinical disease, detection, diagnosis and those which treatment encountered, thus achieving research innovation. Therefore, the construction of the hospital research team is facing the same problems mentioned above as well. With all that in mind, the author’s idea is that the interpersonal trust level among all of the members plays a significant role in the team innovation activities. It’s worth of investigating the effects and functions of interpersonal trust among team members for research activities on innovation performance. And in author’s opinion, we can do such a research from the perspective of interpersonal trust team member’s knowledge sharing (knowledge acquisition and contribution).Based on previous studies, this article includes the data from a survey, through relevant variables measurement scale revision, which contains 48 research teams with 5 different types of well-known hospitals in Nanjing. These hospitals have their own strengths in some key disciplines. There is also competition among varies kinds of subjects as well as different teams with the same subject. They are all struggling to achieve the innovation performance of their teams. All of the 48 research teams in choice pose certain differences in research innovation, each team is representative and typical enough to form an example. After the data analysis, an influence mechanism can be found, through which the individual level interpersonal trust impacts the team level innovation performance. The article clearly points out that the individual level of interpersonal trust does affect the team level innovation. The main innovation of literature almost ignored the role interpersonal relationships plays on community innovation activities. The interaction and collaboration among team members is crucial to the success of team innovation activities. Intimate relationships can inhibit the opportunistic behavior and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of interpersonal interaction and collaboration. In the same way, each member’s contribution makes great difference in the team research activities. And their interpersonal relations also influence their attitudes to each other and the possibility of collaboration in turn. Only if everyone in the team commits to the scientific research innovation will the performance of the entire team be improved.
