| The globalization makes all the counties around the world both in politics and trade. In case of that, the standardization is more and more important. In order to get and keep advantages, countries begin to invest a lot of manpower and material resources and financial resources to the matters of standardization. This article does research from both academic and empirical aspects, so as to make clear of the effect of standardization on our foreign trade.This article mentions that the standardization is a "double-edged sword". On the one hand, standardization has functions of improving international trade, such as lowing the costs of trade deals and making the trade fair to both parties. On the other hand, the standardization can cause problems of technical trade barriers, which will hinder the development of trade. And then the article talks about the development of standardization of China, affirming the achievements and pointing out the problems. Besides, the article summarizes the advanced experience, which can be learned by China, of the standardization of American, Germany and Japan. In the empirical parts, this article uses national standards, industry standards and standardization technical committee to represent the standardization on the basis of other scholar’s study, chooses the data from 1992 to 2011, and gets the conclusion by error correction model. The conclusion is that, in long terms, the standardization can improve the import, export and total foreign trade. But in short terms, it can only improve the total foreign trade and export, while hinder the import. According to theoretical analysis and empirical results, we propose the following suggestions at the end of this article. In order to improve the level of standardization and foreign trade we should keep perfecting the standardization system, strengthening the international standard competition, trying to dominant international standard affairs and promoting professional talents on standardization. |
