According to the database in the China health and nutrition survey (CHNS),the microhousehold survey data from 1988 to 2010 displayed its variances and distribution of middle-income groups. It is significant to understand the pattern of income distribution at the present stage in China and a series of problems existing in the development of our country’s economy. The research was mainly divided into four parts. In the first part, three different methods including seven or five equal income method, median income division method and partial ordering method, was chosen to calculate the proportions of middle-income groups of our urban and rural areas in recent years and than paint the graphics to show their changes. In terms of possible errors by performing various methods,we use different methods to measure and compare the results on the basis of original data. Results show that there was some difference of the value of the proportion of middle-income groups, but the overall trend is showing a consistency. From 1988 to 2010,the income level of urban and rural areas in our country was on the rise as a whole. However, the proportion of middle-income groups showed a trend of declining. At the same time density curve shows that China’s rural and urban residents income distribution are presented for right-skewed density, namely the density of low-income groups was larger than high-income group,middle-income groups is weak is an existing problem in the income distributions. To explore the relationship between the proportions of middle-income groups and equality in income distribution, the second part will establish the mathematical expressions about the peoportions of middle-income groups and Gini coefficient, this part calculate Gini coefficient according to the third order polynomial which meets the nature of Lorenz curve. The results show that there is a negative relationship between gini coefficient and the proportion of middle-income groups, namely the greater the proportion of middle-income groups, the smaller the gini coefficient;the greater the opposite. This account for expanding the proportion of middle-income groups in urban and rural areas will easy the inequality of income distribution in our country, which only more in line with China’s development strategy of "priority to efficiency and due consideration to fairness".The third part,in order to reduce the income gap of residents in our country and realize the growth of middle-income groups and fairness in income distribution,we should spare no efforts to deepen the understanding about the present situation of China’s income distribution and the distribution characteristics in all aspects of middle-income groups. So this part makes detail calculation and description about the distribution of middle-income groups in gender, regional, level of education and the industry,to explore the existing problems of China’s income distribution in different sex, area, level of education and industry by looking at its distribution situation,so as to putting forward the methods-to solve corresponding problem, promoting healthy and stable development of economy in our country. The last part introduces the factors which influencing changes in the proportion of middle-income group in our country based the CHNS micro data via the macro view.Putting forward that the factor influencing changes in the proportion of middle-income groups is growth effect, distribution effect and level effect, and illustrating how the three effect change the proportion of middle-income groups through the measure results.
