Agricultural and mineral products are relation to the daily life of people and the healthy development of a country’s industry, and they are the foundation of a country’s survival and development, moreover they profoundly affect a country’s economic security and national security. In recent years, with the unprecedented development of economic and trade cooperation, as the most important agricultural and mineral products producer and consumer in the world, the volume of China’s agricultural and mineral products trade increased significantly since the 1990s, at the same time it also prompted the study of China’s agricultural and mineral products trade become academic hot spot. However, most existing literature from a macroscopic perspective to study China’s agricultural and mineral products trade, rarely from the microscopic perspective to explore the structure of China’s agricultural and mineral products trade. So this paper based on the decomposition framework of trade dual margins, selecting data of agricultural and mineral products trade of China and 35 countries and regions from 1993 to 2012 and data of agricultural and mineral products trade of 31 cities and provinces of China and 35 countries and regions from 2002 to 2008 and calculating their dual margins, the result shows that no matter on state-level or on province-level, the trade growth of China’s agricultural and mineral products mainly driven by the intensive margin, the contribution of the extensive margin is relatively small. In addition, this paper exploring the influencing factors of the intensive margin on state-level and on province-level, finding that the level of economic development, changeable trade costs, FDI, land area and regional economic integration have a remarkable impact on the intensive margin on state-level, moreover the level of economic development, changeable trade costs, FDI, land area and geographical factors have a remarkable impact on the intensive margin on province-level, but the impact mechanisms on import or export are different. Finally, this paper providing some policy suggestions according to the result.
