Electric power industry is important basic national energy industry, which has a very close relationship with economy and social development, and has important influence on the development of national economy and people’s livelihood. Beginning in 2002, China state started to carry out the reform of electric power system, in order to promote the rapid development of power industry. But now, power grid enterprises are still in the oligarchic monopoly, and competition mechanism have not been introduced into electricity market, and which means that electricity market system has not really formed. Since 2013, the state began to promote a new round of reform of electric power system, which will turn our country electricity market into competition in existing international model, so that the electricity market more competitive. As important parts in the electric power industry, the power generation companies have been involved in market competition, in the tide of facing more and more serious test.The thesis choose the coal-fired power-H Power Generation Company-as the research object, and carried out an thorough analysis and discussion on the company’s operation environment and resources and abilities, with kinds of theories of strategic management, which include PEST, porter five strategic tools such as model, value chain analysis. This paper points out that in face of increasing competition in the electric power market, H Generation Company should make full use of their strengths, seize opportunities and avoid risks by using its own coal integration synergies to develop Thermal power business, accelerating diversification of new energy and other related industries, and establishing a market-oriented, customer demand as the center of power marketing system. On the basis of formulating the company’s strategy, this article put forward implementing measures about development strategy from the aspect of marketing management, cost management, human resources, technology research, capital operation, organization structure, enterprise culture construction, information construction and so on.With the speeding up of the pace of reform in electric power system, the competition among power generation companies will become more intense. The thesis put forward the development strategy of H Power Generation Company, providing reference for company’s management and the sustained and healthy development. At the same time, this paper provide a reference for other companies which have the relevant background and resources background in electric power industry.
