During the past ten years, the rapid growth of Chinese economy resulted in the increasingly serious resource depletion and environmental deterioration. Remanufacturing is an effective way to resolve the environmental issues and resource scarcity. Therefore, the remanufacturing industry development in China is of great significance to transform the economic development pattern by alleviating the growing tense contradiction between resource and the environment. Whereas, the remanufacturing industry is still in its initial stage in China, also the influence of the industry development is not clear. Hence, research on the influence mechanism of the remanufacturing development is essential to help the Chinese government to formulate and adjust related industrial policies.On the basis of the related theories and studies, the research problems are identified after clarifying the current situations during the remanufacturing industry development in China and other countries. Specifically, based on the Input/output theory firstly, also by jointly considering the remanufacturing activities and industry situations, this thesis establishes an economic influence model of the remanufacturing industry, and the model is used to analyze the influence of input or output changes of the remanufacturing industry on the economy. Furtherly, a combined input/output (hereinafter referred to as I/O) and Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as DEMATEL) method is developed by integrating the DEMATEL analysis into the I/O model. The combined method can directly and effectively evaluate environmental benefits from the remanufacturing industry and the linkage effect of remanufacturing industry by using the casual-effect relationships figure. Finally, the lasted Chinese national I/O table in 2007 is used in these two models, which gives an empirical example to demonstrate the model applicability:Through the analysis of current remanufacturing situation and our survey in a typical truck engine remanufacturing company-Fuqiang Power Co., this thesis calculates the related I/O data in the remanufacturing industry. With such data, the first I/O model is used to analyze the quantified influence of the remanufacturing industry on the economy, while the second combined I/O-DEMATEL model is used to analyze the status of the remanufacturing industry in China and a serious of linkage effects of remanufacturing to other industries. The main results are:The remanufacturing industry could meet the same final demand in society, while reduces the total input in the economy. Moreover, it could stimulate some traditional pollutant and high energy consumption industries. The results are meaningful to the related governments in instructing the remanufacturing practice development in China.
