In recent years, the concept of "carbon tax" and "emission trading" receives evermore attention and exerts conspicuous impact on the operation of companies. While theglobal economy is facing tremendous pressure, the e-commerce industry in China isspringing up dramatically. More and more companies are devoted to the structuretransformation of the supply chain from the traditional mode to the e-commerce mode. However, with the world entering the low-carbon era, carbon emission has become acritical constraint on the operational decisions. Due to the specific properties of thee-commerce mode, there exists significant change in the total carbon emission, whichplays an important role in the decision-making process. In this paper, a review of existing carbon market and related carbonreduction initiatives is given first. The carbon emissions through the wholesupply chain are quantitatively described from three aspects includingwarehousing, packaging and transportation. A large fashion garment company istaken as an example to illustrate the comparison, thus showing the impact of themode transformation on the carbon emission. Targeted optimization advices aregiven with an economic analysis considering the carbon price, thus providing abasis for supply chain decisions in the low-carbon era.
