Petroleum affects the development of the national economy increasingly, as importantstrategic energy. With the continued rapid growth of China’s economy, the contradictionbetween the oil supply and demand becomes serious, which restricts China’s economic andsocial development. It is necessary for Chinese petroleum enterprises to enhance internationalcompetitiveness, confronted with the situation of the increasing domestic demand for oil, thefierce international competition, the increasing shortage of the oil and uneven distribution. Asour national integrated international energy company, CNPC is one of the biggest oil andnatural gas producers and suppliers in our country, so the level of CNPC’s internationalcompetitiveness is directly related to the overall level of China’s oil industry’scompetitiveness.Firstly, based on the theories of international competitiveness and benchmarking, theconcepts of the enterprise competitiveness, international competitiveness and petroleumenterprises’ international competitiveness are defined in order to research the thesis. Thebenchmarking object is determined by stepwise screening the petroleum enterprises abroad. Inaccordance with the petroleum companies international competitiveness evaluation indicatorssystem building principal and combined with the factors that influence the internationalcompetitiveness of the petroleum companies, the required indicators and build the indicatorssystem are effectively selected and described. For determining the indicators weights, AHPand entropy weight method are used to set the weight value from subjective and objectiverespectively, respect the knowledge and experience of experts while combined the objectiveoriginal data, realize the combine of subjective and increase the accuracy of index weight. Atlast, some suggestions are given according to foreign petroleum enterprises’ successfulexperiences and benchmarking.In the end, the process of analysis is summarized. At present, CNPC’s strength has a clear competitive advantage in the international oil market, especially scale strength anddevelopment capabilities. But there are some weaknesses, such as profitability, the level ofmanagement and so on, so CNPC must make some measures to overcome.
