Japan and EU are two important economies in today’s world,the economic trendsbetween Japan and EU always attracts worldwide attentions. Japan and EU conductedbilateral trade activities since the1960s. In early years, Japan’s long-term tradesurplus had raised frequent trade frictions between the two countries, to some extent,hindered the development of bilateral trade between Japan and EU. In this case, Japanand EU made their best efforts to adjust their trade policies actively and explore newcooperation program constantly, in order to ease the Economic friction and bring theirtrade relationship into balance. The efforts of the two countries will pave the way fortheir further trade cooperation. After years of trade cooperation, the bilateral tradeactivities between Japan and EU has been large-scale and made some success. Thecurrent trade cooperation process between Japan and EU still have collisions, but theyare not the mainstream issues,the bilateral trade between Japan and EU is movingtoward the direction of coordination and cooperation.There are also problems in the two country’s trade activities under the currentinternational situation. The rapid rise of emerging markets and developing economiesare occupying more and more important position in the global trade, and have mademuch more contributions to it. Japan and EU try to adopt to the new change of worldtrade pattern, and strengthen trade cooperation with emerging markets and developingeconomies, will weaken the trade relationship between Japan and EU to some extent.Apart from this, tariff and non-tariff barriers become important factors hindering thefurther development of bilateral trade between Japan and EU. In order to better solvethe problems that appear in the development of bilateral trade, Japan and the EU setup a variety of dialogues and cooperation channels on different levels. The traderelationship between Japan and EU not only deepen the cooperation andcommunications in economic level, but also promotes the cooperation in political,energy security and scientific cultural fields of the two countries, make Japan and EUbecome a strategic partner in the true sense.From a long-term perspective, Japan and EU will develop a long-lasting andfar-reaching trade relationship, so it becomes necessary to sign a free trade agreement.By signing this agreement, Japan and EU can not only upgrade the trade facilitation, encouraging them to reduce the existing tariff and non-tariff barriers, but can also laythe foundation for future cooperation in other fields.
