An Empirical Analysis Of The Factors Affecting The Efficiency Of Energy Consumption In China

Energy plays an important role in the history of human development, and with the progress of time, our society relys more and more on energy. Although more new kinds of available energy are discovered, the technologies of energy using constantly updated, the energy supply is still insufficient. The outbreak of the energy crisis in the70s of last century gave ue a lesson, people research more deeply on the energy problem. The fileds of energy economics study expand in order to fit the demand of social economy.Energy economics has undergone three stages:(a) the stage of reseaching on the development, utilization and effective supply of a specific kind of energy product. People focus on researching the development and utilization of coal before1920s, after that, people focus on the oil utilization research, and this formed a lot of sector economics of energy industry,such as coal economics and oil economics.(b) The stage of researching on the relationship between different kinds of energy, the relationship between energy and the economy. In the mid70s last century, the energy crisis made people pay attention to the study on the substitution and complementarity of different kinds of energy, people researched more on the integrated research system and the relationship between energy and the economic development than the unit study.(c) The stage of researching on the externality of energy development and utilization. When studying the economic growth, people noticed that the economy did not increase with the social development, the economic growth depending on a large number of resource will cause ecological imbalance and environmental degradation and some other problems. The externality of energy development caught people’s eyes. The development of the energy economics shows that people knows more and more about the energy, in the new century, energy, population and the environment are the three major problems that human should solve urgently, people will know more about the energy, and the energy energy economics will also develop. Recently the scholars are mainly studying the two aspects when they are researching on the energy economics:(a) energy assessment;(b) the analysis of the factors which affect the energy efficiency. We can find out in the literature of research on energy efficiency that the analysis on the efficiency evaluation of energy utilization in our country is mainly from three aspects:the macro, meso and micro aspects, which all involve the determination of energy efficiency indexs. According to the number of input production factors in the energy utilization process, the energy utilization efficiency index can be divided into single factor energy efficiency index and the total factors energy efficiency index. When accounting the single factor energy efficiency index, we assume that energy can bring economic output without anyother resources, such as capital, labor, and this is not usually true. However, the total factors energy efficiency index considers with different iuput elements which can better show the connotation of energy efficiency. It is usually measured by data envelopment analysis of non parametric (Data Envelopment Analysis, DEA).The reseach about the analysis on the factors influencing the energy efficiency mainly focus on two aspects:the industrial structure and the progress of technology, but people got different results due to the different historical span data, different indicators and different research methods. Some results show that structural adjustment is the deciding factor, but some other studies shows that technological progress is a decisive factor. In addition, some scholars also study the energy efficiency on the degree of opening to the outside world, the reform of the economic system, the price of energy. There are two empirical study methods to research the factors affecting the energy efficiency in our country, one is using the decomposition method to study the changes of energy efficiency in our country, which will be divided into structural change and efficiency change, the other way of studying the factors of energy efficiency is using the multiple regression analysis in econometric models, it studys the equilibrium and fluctuation of the energy efficiency, industrial structure and the technological progress by cointegration test and error correction model.In this paper, the present situation of energy consumption in China is investigated, analyzed. mainly from the balance of supply and demand, the consumption structure of energy consumption, the difference between the indusrty and regional energy consumption. Then the problems of present situation of energy consumption in China are discussed. This paper chooses three factors: the second industrial added value, investment and consumption, as the research object from the factors affecting the efficiency of energy consumption. At first, I explain the theoretical mechanism of the effect of these three factors on the efficiency of energy consumption, then, I screen out the corresponding data and index under the condition that the data can be obtained. Because of the differences of the efficiency of energy consumption between the inter provinces or inter regions, this paper sets up the panel data to reflect the differences, followed by the empirical analysis of energy consumption by using panel data appropriate model, we get the corresponding conclusion and policy from the results. In the last part, I show some deficiencies of this paper I met in the research process.
