The international trade of China has been dependent upon international shipping industry. This paper aims to conduct a study on the economic effect of shipping industry on Chinese economies in2007using input-output analysis. The economic effects consist of backward and forward linkage effects, production induction effects, so that this study tries to present a preliminary indication of the role of the shipping industry. In doing so, this study creates an exogenous variable of the shipping industry to investigate its economic effects in detail. The data for this research are collected from National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) database for the Input-output structure of the Chinese economy. The results of this research help policy-maker of China identify the economic role of the shipping industry and design effective policy for sustainable economic growth in the globalized economy.
