From eighteenth century80to twentieth century50years, mankind has experienced three technical revolutions. Technology revolution has brought profound changes to human society. Technology is the first productivity, so the countries all over the world are trying their best to grasp advanced technology. The birth and development of technology trade is of strong market demand. Therefore, many countries invest a lot of time and energy to study the international technology trade. The previous studies focused on the differentiation of culture, culture conflict and so on, but lack of the study of the impact of informal institutions on the international technology trade. It is the object of this paper to find out the influence of the informal institutions on the international technology trade, the position and negative impact.In this essay, via systematic analysis, the writer gets the following conclusions:first, the political system, economic system and legal system have influence on the international technology trade. Second, the relationships between informal and formal institutions are opposite, unified and transformation at certain conditions. The informal institutions could reduce the enforcement and implementation cost of formal institutions. Third, the informal institution is an important tool to reduce the transaction cost of international technology trade at the three aspects; they are cultural factors, the influence of the gentleman’s agreement with the credit consciousness, values and informal institutional ethics. Forth, the influence of informal institutions on the international technology trade includes positives side and negative side. The positive influences are to save cost, promote the steady development of the international technology trade etc. the negatives are the conflicts caused by language differences, education differences, different customs and habits.The innovations of this article are possible:(1) we found that in the foreign and the domestic related literatures, there is lack of the research on informal institutions influence on international technology trade, whereas mostly do study the impact of informal institutions on the economy. Therefore, this article can enrich the study literature of influence of informal institutions on the international technology trade.(2) The scholars at home and abroad have studied the characteristics and development trend of the development of international technology trade, the cultural conflict, cultural differences and cultural integration during the international technology trade etc. Throughout all kinds of literature, there is a lack of systematic studies of the effect of informal institutions on the international technology trade as well as the analysis of the consequences. In this paper, systematically analyze the influence of informal institutions and their consequences, which is a supplement to the studies of informal institutions.(3) The cases listed in this paper are two typical cases of multiple technology transfer projects participated by the author. They are representative cases themselves. It is hoped that the enterprises engaged in international technology trade can get some suggestions and help from this paper.At the base of the analysis on the two typical case, the writer put forward some suggestions and countermeasures, such as keep your promise, establish a good enterprise image, fully understand the national customs and habits before the international technology trade, integrate the enterprise’s cultures and that of the local, make the trade policy suitable to the local situation, hold culture consciousness training, cultivate cross-cultural management personnel, conduct cultural exchange activities with the trade partner in the process of technology trade, pay attention to cultural changes during the international technology trade.
