During production activities, the production efficiency is one of indexes that people are concerned about very much. If we can invest fewer resources and get more effective outputs, the corresponding production efficiency is high and enterprises will have higher economic benefit. Enterprises who want to have real market competitiveness must continuously reduce costs. To achieve cost reduction, enterprises depend on making perfection more perfect and promoting the production efficiency. Industrial engineering (IE) is a cross subject which combines technology and management. IE’s core is to reduce costs, improve quality and productivity. In the meantime, improving productivity is the starting point and final goal of IE, and it’s also the first mission of industrial engineers.This topic is based on the theory of industrial engineering, takes the lean production as the core idea and combines with the actual situation of B auto parts production enterprise. By using IE technologies, the final assembly production line is analyzed and improved. The production cycle time is reduced, which meets customer demand, and then improves the production efficiency of the enterprise.Firstly, this paper illustrates the background and significance of using IE technologies to improve the productivity of enterprises. And then it reviews the research and application status of industrial engineering at home and abroad. At the same time, it describes the connotation and the improvement principle of IE related technology. Finally, taking B enterprise in Suzhou as an example, the status analysis is carried out on the assembly line. In view of these problems, the paper optimizes and improves the production line by combining "5WIH and ECRS" technology with program analysis, work analysis, motion analysis and MTM method. Finally, improved results are analyzed and evaluated.The result of improvement and optimization shows that: in the case of using little or no input and maintaining quality, the workstation count is decreased by five, the operator number is reduced from23to17, and movement distance is shortened by4.4meters, which make the process program more scientific and reasonable and greatly reduce the labor cost. By focusing on improving the bottleneck workstations, the cycle time is reduced from19.7seconds to12.0seconds and the line balance rate is increased from64%to87%, which reduce the waste caused by the unbalanced workstations and improve the production efficiency.Particularly, for improvements of hands and action, the paper combines with the mechanical knowledge to design and optimize structures for tools and equipment; it uses MTM method to determine the standard time, which avoids the personnel’s subjective effect and gets more accurate and reliable result. The practice shows that IE technology is simple and practical, which deserves more enterprises to promote and put into use.
