Hayek’s defends of free market comes from two principles:firstly, centrally planned economy inevitably leads to slavery, which is a disaster to humanity therefore immoral; secondly, the interaction between individual players in a given system generates an Emergent Property, which in turn forms the Spontaneous Order, in another word, the free market. Emergent Property has its own mechanism, any exterior interference damages its order or destroys the market. Therefore, the concept of Emergent Property gives legitimacy to free market ontologically and embryologically. Most early discussions on Hayek’s free market theory tended to concentrate on the former, and ignore the latter. However, recent research has been paying more attention to his Emergent Property (or simply Emergence), attempting to trace the origin of free market through the line of Emergence-Complexity-Spontaneous Order. This author tries to Emergence into the Chinese literature on Hayek and deepen the understanding of his free market concept."Promoting Marketization" is the key phrase for China’s present day economic reform. Hayek, who is the represent of liberalism and the Austrian School, championed the theory of the free market and liberalism. Therefore, it is crucial to better understand Hayek, especially his firm belief in free market.
