Analysis On The China’s Green Technology Innovation Based On "Strategic Niche Management"

With the rapid economic development, environmental degradation has become a major problem that the world is facing. China also faces enormous environmental challenges after experiencing30years of rapid economic growth. For many years scholars have been trying to explore new approaches to achieve ecological transitions from different angles, but with little success. In recent years, people have gradually been aware that environmental problems occur not only because of technologies, but also because of the consumer, policies, infrastructure, culture, etc. To solve environmental problems, Scholars should not simply use existing technology methods, but also should focus on the whole social system.Strategic Niche Management was just proposed on the basis of the rise of these ideas and originated from evolutionary economics. From academic origin, strategic niche management has a close relationship with technology transition theory and multi-level perspective. Niche is a place where innovation emerges, develops and matures. In the multi-level perspective, niche is the micro-level. A core assumption of the SNM approach is that sustainable innovation journeys can be facilitated by modulating of technological niches. In a niche, innovation develops with user practices, rules and other elements. Therefore, SNM is not an approach to promote sustainable development only by upgrading technologies, but a method that technologies and society co-evolve to achieve the transformation of the social system.Since the late1990s, SNM has become has become an immediate area of study focus of western scholars. SNM three internal processes revealed under what circumstances a radical novelty can develop further in niche and eventually compete with mainstream technologies. SNM three processes includes the articulation of expectations, the building of social networks and learning process. Some scholars found that niche innovations are rarely able to bring about regime transformation without the help of broader forces and processes.Through literature research, I found that few domestic scholars study this theory, and even in the west, empirical studies are almost cases research. I combine SNM three processes and dynamics between socio-technical regimes and niche, attempt to explain the development of innovative mechanisms niche. I analyze green China’s technology innovation patent data to identify and the green technology innovation niche provinces and explain the mechanisms of niche development. Empirical studies have shown that mainstream technology competitive pressures will reduce the innovation willingness of actors and delay niche innovation process. However, the competition will inspire learning process and improve the new technologies, and finally promote innovation the development.
