As one of the most important aspects of modern enterprise management, position management specifically reflects the enterprise’s strategic objectives, business processes and work responsibilities. In the course of practicing position management by Chinese enterprises and institutions, especially the state-owned scientific research institutions, there are some problems, such as instability of position, unmatching between people and position, chaos in responsibility, promotion channel sluggish. How to establish a scientific and effective position management system, which aims to stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of employees, enhance the execution and competitiveness of enterprises in order to face unprecedented fierce competition in the market, is of great significance to each enterprise.C Institute is a typical state-owned scientific research institute. Due to environmental changes, strategic adjustment and other reasons, the scientific research departments of the institute were reorganized. It is urgent to establish a position management system adapted to the new organizational structure. At the same time, the problems in the original position management in those research departments also restrict the execution and innovative capacity of the research departments, and the implementation of the strategy of the Institute was affected as well. Based on the facts above, the research departments of C Institute carried out a position management reform, and a new position management system was set up. Through the construction, a reasonable and canonical position system is established in the research departments, and it is a leading step to categorize positions in the field of similar industry, which consequently clears a through channel for employees to build their career. Also, a scientific positions valuation was implemented. All such systems will play a strong and supportive role in the steady and sustainable development of C Institute. Due to work commitments, the author has got involved in the construction process. In this thesis, the theories and methods of position management are utilized, while theory and practice are combined as well to summarize the construction process of position management system of C Institute. Some suggestions are also provided after the author’s research and conclusion, which can hopefully be used for references for other research institutes.The paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction, including research background, purpose and meaning, as well as the research methods and frameworks;The second part introduces the concept, the main content and related theories of position management;The third part introduces the basic state of C Institute, status of position management in research departments and existing problems;The fourth part is the content of the construction of position management system of research departments, including position setting, position analysis, position classification, position evaluation;The fifth part is evaluation of the new position management system, including the effect, contributions and inadequacies of the position management system.
