This research is aim to study about the perception of effective managerfrom the employees view point, and to explore whether there is significantdifferences between Cambodia and China. To achieve this purpose, this studyselects the statements from the Leadership Excellent model by Sevarajah et al.which is establish based on the literature review of leadership managerial valuefrom both east and west. National cultural dimension of the work of Hofstede isalso used as the conceptual framework, by selecting five dimensions, namely,power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, individualism and long termorientation. Based on the framework, the hypotheses were constructed toinvestigate about the managerial effectiveness of both countries. The quatitativemethod is used for this study, and questionnaire is used as the instrument for theresearch. The questionnaires were distributed to both emp loyees in China andCambodia. In China, the survey was handout to MBA students in HarbinInstitute of Technology both part time and full time, and the other employeeswho are working full time in different sectors. In Cambodia the Questionnaireswere distributed via email. Totally, there are320respondents, of which166ar eChines and154are Cambodian. Descriptive statics was used to understand thecharacteristics of the demographic of the samples, and t-test analysis was usedfor hypothesis testing. The study has found that, Cambodian give the mostimportant for the manager who creates a family-like organization, respects andtreats employees well, while Chinese give the highest rate to the manager who isassertive, strong and future-oriented. Both nations give similar level ofimportant to “Respect the self-esteem of others”,“giving the positive feedback”,and “deal calmly in tense situation”. The research has found some differencesand similarity among the two and it has also found that, national cultur e still hasthe impact, but only to some extent.
