The ornamental fish industry, which has goodmarket prospect and high additional value, is a broad promising industry. Therefore,the benefit of the ornamental fish industry is similar as the value of the cat, dog orother pet market.With the booming of economy, ornamental fish markets in Fujian, Guangdong,Shanghai, and Beijing or other cities have been rapidly developed. These ornamentalfish markets were surveyed and practical guidance for the market development wasprovided. In recent years, the ornamental fish consumption in Luoyang has beensignificantly increased. However, there was no any reported about the ornamental fishmarket of Luoyang. In this direction, in order to understand the information of theornamental fish market operation and consumption in Luoyang, the ornamental fishmarket was investigated by the methods of overall and stratified random samplinglayer. Through field research interviews to first-hand information and data obtained,the development status of ornamental fish market in Luoyang was preliminary studied.The concrete research contents were described as follows:1. The operating status of the ornamental fish market in LuoyangThe investigation, around Luoyang areas such as Luoyang Shanghai Market,Luoyang Flower Market, Anle Town Flower Market, Jinghai Flower Market and otherornamental fish consumption concentration areas, was targeted towards the ornamentalfish store including ornamental fish sales scale, operating time, ornamental fish species,sales channels and the degree of satisfaction. The overall index was deduced through 48valid sample data which were obtained from field survey. The results showed thatmost of ornamental fish stores were small individual shop at20-50square; Relativecheap freshwater tropical fish, brocade carp, goldfish and other small fish were themain sales species; In-store sales was the main mode of operation and the peak seasonwere from April to June; A mount of ornamental fish merchants deemed that thebusiness situation of ornamental fish was considerable and promising. These surveysindicated that although the main features of ornamental fish market in Luoyang weresmall-scale and sales channel-simpleness, it may be a new growth point of the futureeconomic development. It showed that the ornamental fish market in Luoyang is stillin the preliminary development stage.2. Investigation of the consumption characteristics of ornamental fish in LuoyangBased on the field survey, the consumption characteristic of ornamental fishmarket in Luoyang was investigated. We found that males between20-40years oldwere the mainstream consumer groups; the income of consumers was positivelyrelated with ornamental fish single consumption, about80%of consumers had theintention to raise the consumption; most of consumers shared the information of theornament fish from sellers and up to90%consumers did not feel disgusted about theornamental fish additional products which were promoted by sellers. All abovespeculated that the ornamental fish consumption still had a lot of room to increase, butthe style of consumption mainly rely on the market and relatively passive.3. Analysis of the countermeasure of ornamental fish market in LuoyangAccording to the research results of the analysis and combine the presenceproblems of the ornamental fish market in Luoyang, the corresponding developmentstrategies was proposed.
