The urban-rural integration is the senior state of urbanization. At present, our countryis in the middle stage of industrialization. One of the core tasks is to improve the level ofurbanization and strengthen the construction of urban-rural integration. In recent years, oureconomy has gotten rapid development, but the traditional urbanization has brought manyproblems, one of which is the growing income gap between urban and rural areas.Especially in Western China, the income gap between urban and rural areas has been high.Since reform and opening up to2012, the income ratio between urban and rural areas inthe Western China has been higher than3.3:1. So it is imminent of Western China tostrengthen new-type urbanization, narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, and speedup the urban-rural integration.Chengdu, which is a typical city of urban-rural integration of Western China, in2003,started to build the urban-rural integration, and balance the urban and rural comprehensivefacilities. Till2007, the urban-rural integration had obtained obvious achievement. In2007,the central government took Chengdu as the first national demonstration areas of balancingthe urban and rural development. Chengdu, in their own efforts and with the country’ssupport, has formed some special modes of urban-rural integration, which is of greatsignificance to build the urban-rural integration in the Western China.This paper, first of all, combs the typical modes of urban-rural integration at homeand abroad, and summarizes some experiences and lessons. Second, it focuses on theempirical analysis of the urban and rural economic development of Chengdu fromlongitudinal and horizontal aspects. Longitudinal analysis includes the evaluation index ofurban-rural development degree and the evaluation index of urban-rural difference degree.The evaluation index of urban-rural development degree mainly includes GDP, per capitaGDP, GDP structure, employment structure and industrial structure deviation degree, therate of urbanization as well as education and health spending, etc. The evaluation index ofurban-rural difference degree mainly includes the per capita income and family Engel’scoefficient of rural and urban residents, urban and rural income ratio, the consumptionstructure of urban and rural medical, etc. Horizontal analysis mainly includes rate ofurbanization, urban and rural income ratio, Engel’s coefficient and so on, comparative withKunming. Finally, the case analysis and the experience summarization are given for theurban-rural integration mode of Chengdu. They provide some experience for theconstruction of our western urban-rural integration. The experience mainly includesadhering to the scientific development view, adjusting measures to local conditions,making full use of regional advantages, improving and innovating the social system,strengthening rural land management, implementing the idea of ecological environmentprotection in the process of urban-rural integration, etc.
