Under the background of global warming and greenhouse effect, the internationalcommunity is seeking effective ways and means to reduce carbon emissions. As the pioneer ofChina’s economic development, Guangdong province continuously explores effectivelong-term mechanism to reduce emissions under the background of carbon emission reduction.Based on the background of low-carbon trade development, this paper provides a uniquevision for the export trade and low-carbon economic development problems.First, this paper carries on preliminary descriptive analysis on the export trade andemissions of carbon dioxide, and makes empirical analysis on the relationship between themby using econometric methods. The results show that the export trade and carbon emissionhave long-term stable equilibrium and short-term fluctuation relationship. Then, this paperestablishs a valued input-output model, this paper calculates the embodied carbon emissionsof export trade of15economic sectors of from2000to2012. The results show that during2000-2012, the embodied carbon of export trade of Guangdong province is2787.60milliontons in2000, and then increases to4171.79million tons in2012.The results show thatGuangdong generates a large amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the form of export trade. While general and special equipment manufacturing industry, textile industry, metal smeltingand processing industry, other manufacturing industry and clothing, leather, feather and itsproducts industry are the principal sources of embodied carbon emissions. Then, this paperuses the LMDI method to make decomposition of the changes of embodied carbon emissionsof export trade into three factors. The results show that export trade scale effect is the maindriving factor of embodied carbon emission of export trade. Export trade structural effect maybe positive or negative. The total consumption coefficient effect exerts an important influenceon embodied carbon reduction. Finally, this paper proposes corresponding policies andsuggestions for the development of export trade.
