With the development of technology in recent years, the emergence of a new image sensor, namely electron multiplying charge-coupled device-EMCCD, the EMCCD can achieve charge multiplication effect in the solid state level, and it is particularly suitable for working in low-light conditions. But it also has a high pixels, high frame rate, low readout noise and high quantum efficiency and other characteristics, has gradually replaced the CCD, ICCD and other applications in adaptive optics.adaptive optics system requires a higher frame rate of EMCCD for real-time observation and rapid correction,and the frame rate of EMCCD is directly proportional with the gain drive operating frequency,therefore we need to continue improve the gain of the drive operating frequency on the basis of previous studies. This article first describes the structure and working principle of EMCCD,and discusses its ionization model and the model of the electron multiplier,understands the doubling mechanism of EMCCD.Then we continue analysis two methods of EMCCD gain driving,the two methods that are square wave and sine,sum up the key factors affect the operating frequency of the two methods, provide a basic theory for designing the gain-driven.Then we put forward some design methods that can enhance the operating frequency of the square wave and sine,analysis the design ideas,and also give the design of supporting modules.We complete the PCB design of the gain drive system of EMCCD under the guidance of the principle of signal integrity. Finally,we analysis the experiment.The result of experiment shows that the design of the square wave and sine wave method can effectively improve the frequency with the magnitude, smoothness, symmetry of the gain driven are in line with the design requirements,it achieves the purpose of the research.
