In recent years, with the increasing popularity of the Android smart devices and the increasing of performance requirements, the power consumption is also rising quickly. However, the development process of the battery technology is far behind the requirements of these devices. How to design the power management to extend the working hours has become an important specification of the design of mobile devices.In this thesis, the power management system is designed and implemented on the Android-based TI AM335x financial terminal. The low power solution includes Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling mechanism and Suspend Resume mechanism. In terms of DVFS, the system is always running at high frequency by using Ondemand policy. By using Android Message Queue and counting the user’s interaction time, an improved policy is implemented in this thesis based on Ondemand policy. In terms of Suspend and Resume, the early suspend and the wakelock are used. By suspending the idle peripherals, the system will enter into the suspend state and the power consumption will fall.Verification and test results show that the design of the power management based on the TI AM335x platform achieved the desired requirements. The designed policy can avoid the system to be set at high frequency and the power consumption falls 12.7% than Ondemand strategy. In this platform, the power consumption of normal state is 502mA, the power consumption of early suspend state is 283mA, the power consumption of sleep state is 11mA, and the power consumption of early suspend state falls 43.6% than normal state.
