With the development of automobile industry, the existing traffic system is gradually unable to meet the increasing traffic demand of private cars, especially in the static traffic areas, such as parking lot. It brings enormous pressure to urban traffic because of the non-smart management. Traditional parking lot has a lot of problems. It is not easy to find a space to park in a crowded parking lot. Manual toll collection brings a lot of inconvenience to the owner. So far, the existing intelligent transportation system is mainly confronted with the following problems:single function, complex wiring, power consumption and fixed network topology. Low power, wireless communication, dynamic network, multifunctional, non-stop toll and human nature become the main direction of intelligent parking lot’s development.In the view of the existing problems, this paper puts forward a set of complete solutions for ITS based on ZigBee and image recognition technology, and respectively estabilishes the ITS. The ITS mainly consists of two parts:the parking guidance system and the parking space detection system. In parking space detection system, geomagnetic sensor and ultrasonic detector are used to ensure the accuracy of the parking space detection; In parking guidance system, speech base and speech card is designed to realize the parking guidance.The paper studies Z-Stack and explains the working procedure of the system through flow chart. By using the second IEEE address, we can ensure the interference immunity of the network. The design of network topology ensures the stability of the system. In consideration of power consumption, the paper designs dual-frequency communication, namely low frequency wakeup and high frequency communication.In the end, design a PC management software for the ITS, which implementation features include: automatic billing, car localization and real-time monitoring. In addition, the paper studies license plate recognition algorithm and transplantes the algorithm into the system. Repeated tests show that the system can work reliable. It provides effective reference scheme and design example for the future practical application.
