Wireless Mesh network technology is an emerging wireless networking technology, its multi-hop, self-organizing, self-healing, rapid deployment and other properties make it in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field receive extensive attention. On this background, the paper carried out research for multi-gateway technology and load balancing issues of WMN.Topics include:Based on WMN overview,we classified, analyzed and compared existing multi-gateway load balancing techniques.Based on research and analysis of IEEE802.11s draft standard and its default routing protocol HWMP.We designed multi-gateway protocol for load factor’s generation, distribute and node processing sectors.Designed frame mark and frame filtering method to solve the problem of interconnection with Distributed Systems, such as spanning port blocking, broadcast storms and routing loops due to introduction of multi-gateway, in second floor WMn network.Taking into account the QoS requirements for ITS services and gateway load conditions, We put forward reasonable QoS gateway selection method,,and verified its performance through simulation. On BeagleBone Black embedded linux platform, based on open source projects open80211s,we transplanted to achieve a single gateway WMN network;we programmed to build a multi-gateway WMN test platform based on multi-gateway solutions proposed above.Through actual netwok test,we verified the function and performance of multi-gateway load balancing scheme. The result of multi-gateway and load balancing thesis, can be used not only in ITS scene, but also has some research and application reference value in other studies and application scenarios of WMN.
