The power line carrier sensor network(Power Line Carrier Sensor Network, PLCSN)which using power line as transmission medium, is widely used with its permanent online, covering widely, low cost and other advantages. However, the characteristics of the power line channel fast time-varying, high attenuation and interference cause the communication link unstable, the network topology become complex. And during the network running, on-line nodes may detach network due to invalid, the new nodes may be added to network randomly, so the network topology changes. Because real-time topology information is the precondition of accurate and reliable data transmission, but also the important safeguard to enhance network robustness and survivability, therefore, study the systematically topology maintenance mechanisms of power line carrier sensor network is important.Given the power line carrier sensor network has a tree topology, channel sharing, energy unlimited, finite node communication distance and signal attenuation positively associated with transmission distance and other characteristics, based on location-enabled Positioning-IP node addressing technology, proposed the " branching found in the whole network, local topology maintenance(Global Branch Discover-Local Topology Maintenance, GBD-LTM)" of topology maintenance algorithm which is adapted to power line carrier sensor network. The algorithm is based on the tree topology of power line carrier whole network, in a complete power line carrier network, each branch detect and found it’s missing and new added nodes to detect, through the continue network of local maintenance strategies will add the new nodes to the network, rendering the full real-time PLCSN topology view. This topology maintenance mechanism can discovery a variety of network topology changes quickly and accurately, updates the real-time topology by the local maintained strategy, enhanced the survivability of PLC network, provide reliable and real-time optimal routing for data transmission; partial maintenance avoid the time waste of re-networking, improve the resource utilization and maintenance efficiency; In addition, the complete PLCSN real-time topology view make network management and fault location easier, optimized network management work.The simulation is performed for GBD-LTM topology maintenance algorithm by matlab, and compared with the results of dynamic discovery topology maintenance, verifying the strong invulnerability and high efficiency of branch-based topology maintenance method. Combined with the actual power line carrier applications GSN-PLC verification system, and analyze the live demonstration results and performance.
