It is time-consuming and laborious to copy the text from the image, so it is very important to study how to identify the characters in the image accurately. The optical character recognition application is mainly based on PC client, but it is still not mature on mobile devices(such as Android phone client). With the improvement of hardware performance and the popularity of mobile devices, the era of mobile computer equipment has arrived. The generation and development of Android operating system, making Android mobile devices occupy a great share in the market and its application more and more widely. Therefore, the study of the application of optical character recognition based on Android, has very good prospects.In this paper, the current optical character recognition applications based on the Android mobile phone support for the recognition of fewer fonts and more functional single, we develop a full-featured and a practical system.The system realizes the recognition of Chinese and English character and the seven segment digital tube of the medical equipment,at the same time, it also realizes the function of remote user registration and login,the users can upload the image and the recognition of the text to the remote server and view the uploaded records and edit the text again,as well as the recognition of the text into voice information to return to the user.The main process to implement the application is:firstly, select the original image, including the call to Android mobile phone camera to take image or selecting the image from the Android phone;then pre process the selected image;finally, use Tesseract optical character recognition technology to identify the text from the pre processed image.By testing the functional modules of the application, the results show that:the optical character recognition based on Android in this paper has high speed,accuracy and good comprehensive performance,as well as certain research significance and practical value.
