With the increased development of the information technology in 21 st century, Internet technology becomes increasingly important as a way to produce, store and disseminate information. Optical fiber communication and optical network has been the ultimate carrier of all Internet business physical layer and infrastructure. To ensure the quality of services, the monitoring and management of high-speed optical communication networks become more and more urgent. OSNR(optical signal to noise ratio) is a critical parameter to measure the optical network communication quality because it can measure fiber channel transmission performance.This thesis studies OSNR monitoring schemes in high-speed optical communication system. For QPSK modulation format, we study delay based interferometer method in optical domain and monitor OSNR of the optical fiber communication system. Then, we study delayed sampling method in electric field and monitor OSNR of the optical fiber communication system. Finally,we study statistical moment method and non-linear correction method and use it to monitor OSNR of the optical fiber communication system based on the coherent detected I and Q data. The simulation based on Optisystem and MATLAB is carried, and the simulation results show that the monitoring error of OSNR of different methods is within ± 1dB with the range of 15-25 dB.
