Electronic multiplying charge coupled device(EMCCD)has become one of the core technologies of low light level night vision technology because of its high sensitivity characteristics to light, and it is widely used in aerospace, space exploration, national defense, military, biomedical, medical imaging and other fields. EMCCD technology has developed very rapidly since it was first proposed in the 90’s of last century. However, the research on EMCCD for low light level in China is still in its infancy, and the most of them focus on the analysis of EMCCD imaging theory. This paper aimed at the study of the hardware circuit of EMCCD information acquisition and processing system, and the major work was done as follows:In order to improve the imaging effect of low light level imaging equipment which is already existed, this paper designed a complex digital system which combine EMCCD imaging with imaging processing, including the design of EMCCD driving and analog front-end、the design of imaging system main control unit circuit and the design of external interface circuit. The imaging system is equipped with the most advanced EMCCD sensor chip, it could imaging clearly under extremely low light conditions(10-3LUX). At the meanwhile the system ensures the quality of low light level imaging, and improves the ability of the system to image acquisition and processing with Xilinx powerful chip on system(SOC)ZYNQ-7000.In this paper, the structure and working principle of the EMCCD sensor are discussed, and the discussion on the key factors influencing the imaging effect of EMCCD sensor provided a theoretical basis for the EMCCD imaging system. The driving circuit is optimized by the rational allocation of use environment and system requirements. Xilinx ZYNQ-7000 series processor chip is selected to be the system main control unit(MCU), it is built in "FPGA+ARM" dual core architecture to guarantee the optimal allocation of the main control system of the EMCCD imaging system in the control ability and the digital signal processing ability. And the abundant external memory and reliable high speed external communication interface are also designed for the cooperation with MCU in order to play the maximum efficiency in different application requirements.Besides, the EMCCD system adopted the multi PCB board physical connection mode. It could apply in a variety of applications by changing the board combination structure. Such physical structure provides the system with high adaptability, and it is convenient for the maintenance and secondary development of the system.
