The central core of the thesis was to design a system that will be able to measure the real time position of a Wi-Fi enabled Terminals in terms of its linear distance and angular position with reference to certain known positions of an indoor space, which could be the position of Wi-Fi anchor nodes used or any known position in the enclosed space where Wi-Fi network is accessible. The performance of the positioning and localization algorithm was evaluated by using real experimental data through an effective data gathering scheme with comprehensive sensing about the coverage, detecting Coverage Boundary Anchor Nodes and RSSI Analysis in a Non-Uniform Small Cell Deployment environment. All this was in tandem with our goals which required us to constitute means for the tag node to determine and estimate its physical position with respect to some coordinate system or symbolic location by using the help of anchor nodes whose position and direct adjacent anchor nodes or reference points are well known. For localization purposes we first mapped out the distance/RSSI map using RSSIDistance map relationship developed through finger printing relationship before formulating an information matrix which give us the best feasible region through Atomic Multilateration which recursively mark up a polygon bordering the beast feasible region and finally estimate the best feasible point which references the position of the tag nodeThe performance of the positioning and localization algorithm with respect to the system’s response when moving at certain speeds towards a known position was also evaluated, the response speed was found to be more accurate if the tag node moved a little bit slower hence we concluded that the system designed would be suitable for slow moving objects than fast ones, however, this had to do with the processing speed of the system running the application other than the algorithm itself.
