Software Defined Network is a new kind of network architecture. It separates the control and the forwarding of the network. Meanwhile, with providing the programmatic interface of the network control, it makes network control programmability and the centralized ma nagement of network comes true which improve the flexibility and the efficiency of the network control and configuration. Because of the importance of the control plane’s usability and reliability to the SDN network, they become the research hotspot of the engineering practice.(1) Researching on reliability of SDN control plane. Reliability means the capability of control plane works continuously and fault-free based on SDN. The longer it works, the more reliable it will be. We design and realize the Controller Colony Election Algorithm. When equipments in the control plane break down, the algorithm can detect faults and elect a main controller anew and rapidly. Then the algorithm’s responsibility is to transfer the service on failure equipments to the other equipments which are well working. This can realize the fault automatic diagnosis and recovery for control plane equipment and improve the reliability.(2) Researching on usability of SDN control plane. Usability means the percent of the normal run time based on SDN. The higher the percent is, the better usability will be. We design and realize Network Partitioning Algorithm. The algorithm partition the whole network topology. Each partition is managed by independent controller. This makes the partitions work all together for whole network topology management and improve the usability of the control plane.We design and realize the Controller Colony Election Algorithm to improve the capability of the discovery and dealing of the fault equipment in control plane. This guarantees the reliability of the whole control plane. Meanwhile, by designing and realizing the Network Partitioning Algorithm, the whole network can be parted as many regions. These regions are managed by different controllers to improve the usability of the control plane.
