In order to increase the automation, the adaptive optimal control was introduced in the process of buckwheat shelling, because of that, the rapid adjustment of shelling parameters is possible. In the past,we can judge the shelling performance only by the broken rice rate, the whole rice rate and the unbroken buckwheat rate that are got by manual sieving, calculation. The online detector that can detect the buckwheat shelling effect based on the image recognition technology, mainly includes the design of online testing device and the research of image processing program. The online testing device consists of sampling mechanism, uniform mechanism, feeding mechanism, lighting box with air cleaning and image capture system. The optimum working parameters of this device are as follows:the working width of sampling groove is 24mm;the number of uniform plate is 2;the inclination angle of the uniform sample hopper is 35°;the output voltage of the frequency converter is 125V;the frequency is 54.9Hz;the diameter of the fan outlet is 50mm.In the best working condition, working in with the image processing program, this device can capture the image on line, process the image automatically, and save the results in the specified text document, realizing the on-line detection of buckwheat shelling. In the validation test,100 images were collected continuously, and the following are those processing results:the mean error of broken rice rate is less than±1%,the mean error of whole rice rate is less than ±5%,the mean error of unbroken buckwheat rate is less than ±3.5%.The results can truly reflect the performance of buckwheat shelling under the test condition. The successful development of this system makes adjusting shelling parameters possible, and plays an important role in realizing the adaptive optimal control of buckwheat shelling equipment.
