In the cloud computing environment, the quantity and quality of servers which are needed by enterprise rises continuously. A single high-profile use of the hosts is a great waste to hardware resources, resulting in increasing business development costs. So, using the virtualization technology to achieve a logical division of the physical resources has become a trend, which can improve the physical resource utilization. However, the difficulty to manage the large number of virtual machines rises greatly. In response to these problems, this thesis designs and implements Virtual Resource Management System (referred VRMS) based on SAN environment. The system uses virtualization technology to achieve the physical hosts virtualization to take advantage of the physical machine resources. At the same time, VRMS achieves a series of management operations on virtual machines to ensure its safety. The main work is as follows:(1) Design the whole structure of VRMS, analyze its main functions and divide it into some modules. Then, implement the system according to these modules.(2) Design faulty detection strategies, which used to determine the health status of hosts and virtual machines. If a host is dead, VRMS rapidly and balancedly migrate its virtual machines to other normal hosts, to ensure services which running on the virtual machines run properly. This can minimize the impact caused by mechanical failure.(3) Achieve the function of virtual machines’back-up and recovery based on full back-up, incremental and differential back-up technologies. Crossingly using these three methods gives full play of the advantages of various back-up technologies. Users can save the machines’settings to their respect state. When the virtual machines accidentally damaged, users can use the back-up files to restore it to a previous state, to avoid the time and manpower consuming caused by re installation.In summary, the thesis designs and implements virtual resources management system. Through testing and validation, the system is able to achieve the virtualization capabilities of physical hosts to make full use of the physical hardware resources. Also, it can achieve the function of the virtual machines management operations to control virtual machines’ state and ensure their safety.
