After thirty years of development, FBG sensing technology has been widely used in industrial safety, national defense, infrastructure, construction and many other areas, mainly to monitor the ambient temperature, fire alarm, stress, strain, displacement, acceleration of structure, etc. Compared with traditional electronic sensors, fiber optic sensors have many advantages for its anti-interference ability, stable and reliable, large-scale, high accuracy. Meanwhile, for the mature manufacturing and packaging technology, low production costs, FBG technology receive wide attention from date of birth.In recent years, the introduction of new, advanced fiber optic sensing system demodulation technology and application of technology in many new areas have been reported, long time and in line monitoring in various engineering fields also verified its long-term reliability.In these systems, the core components are imported, high cost limited its marketing, and also limited the rapid development of optical fiber sensing industry. Semiconductor laser scanning technology developed rapidly from the past few years, shown a great advantage in many fields of optical fiber communication, optical detection, optical sensing and so on.Using laser scanning technology for fiber grating spectral acquisition and spectral analysis is a very important technical solution for FBG demodulation. SG-DBR semiconductor laser can achieve C band or L band wavelength fast tuning, can be used as a scanning light source of fiber grating demodulation system. But the tuning wavelength is the ITU for 50GHz step, it’s not enough for FBG demodulation. This article designed 1GHz step wavelength tunable laser module, for high accuracy, fast FBG demodulation.Combining work experience, first introduced semiconductor laser scanning technology, development history, and FBG demodulation technique, focusing on the FBG demodulation system based on semiconductor wavelength scanning laser, then testing and evaluation it’s performance.
