Once the traditional test instrument is produced, the function and technical index are fixed, lacking of generality and expansibility, and it can’t complete the multi task joint test in the increasingly complex electronic testing environment. With the continuous development and improvement of modern electronic testing technology, the testing instrument has experienced four stages of development of simulation testing instrument, digital testing instrument, intelligent test instrument, virtual instruments. The performance of the instrument is increasing significantly, but still can’t meet the demand of testing instrument multifunctional integration of modern test.Reconfigurable technology can reconstruct the test instrument system software and hardware, with resource utilization, low power consumption, high flexibility and the advantages of adaptive function, as well as wide application prospect. In many reconfigurable technology realization methods, the reconfigurable technology based on FPGA has been widely concerned and studied, and it has been developed rapidly. FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) reconstruction technique by way of time division multiplexing using FPGA logic resources, to achieve the different circuit functions, not only is close to the high performance of ASIC(Application Specific Integrated Circuit), but also has the flexibility of general purpose processor, and provides a new choice for implementation of the calculation method. The emergence and wide application of the reconfigurable technology makes it possible to make the multi function integration of the testing instrument.In this paper, on the basis of the further study of reconfigurable technology, the design scheme of a kind of multifunctional instrument can make the instrument to achieve multiple applications through hardware reuse, which is proposed by applying the reconfigurable technology based on FPGA. The image acquisition and signal generator for the two applications design example, the design method of multifunctional instrument are introduced in detail. Combining the technical index requirements, the hardware circuit of the multifunctional instrument as a whole is designed, including FPGA control module, a reconfiguration module, communication module, data storage module, image acquisition module, signal generator module, switch control module and power management module etc.. Finally, the design of multi-functional instrument logical unit of sequential logic design and simulation, and performance testing of the experimental results are analyzed and compared to verify the design of multi-functional instrument is correct and feasible.
