Multiple-input multiple-output technology has received more attention in wireless communication because of the ability of increasing capacity. By using multi-antenna at both of the receiving and transmitting end, MIMO can provide promising high data rate without sacrificing additional power and spectrum. Therefore, MIMO became one of the key technologies of next generation wireless communication. Simultaneously, MIMO system calls for more and more accurate model for different scenarios. In this thesis, based on design of MIMO channel sounder, channel sounding, modeling and multi-antenna design are discussed around the center of modeling of radio propagation channels and antenna design in MIMO system. The characteristics are analyzed based on measurement. According to the analysis in MIMO channel, the design guidelines of multi-antenna are summarized. The two parts of this thesis are organized as follows.Firstly, the MIMO channel sounder with 4×32 channels are designed based on sliding correlator method. The channel is measured by using this sounder in LoS(light of sight) and NLoS scenarios on the campus. The Kronecker model and Wenchselberger model are compared and simulated in the thesis. The correlation in the narrow band MIMO channel model is summarized. The design guidelines of multi-antenna are summarized. The multi-antenna system is divided into multi-mode antenna and combined multi-element antenna. For the design of multi-mode antenna, the method such as cavity model of microstrip patch antenna and the theory of characteristic modes for PEC structure is utilized to study the MIMO antenna. Two MIMO antennas are proposed based on analysis, which bring us physical insight of the radiation performance..
