The Raman fiber amplifier (RFA) which is based on the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) is an enable technology for optical communication due to RFA’s low noise, distributed amplification and broad bandwidth amplification. A Raman pump module was designed and carried out in this dissertation. And a series of experiments had been done on the basis of that. The main research works and results are given as following:(1) This dissertation introduces the background and significance of the RFA, and reviews the current developments, research status and excellent products of the semiconductor laser controllers at home and abroad.(2) This dissertation describes the basic working principle of RFA and semiconductor laser, and sorts out the objects that need to be monitored in the Raman pump module.(3) The system principle of Raman pump module was analyzed in this dissertation. The Raman pump module circuit was designed, which focused on the design of the lasers’ constant current source circuit, the photodiode current monitoring circuit and the temperature control circuit.(4) Remote monitoring system for Raman pump module based on the serial communication was designed in this dissertation. The host computer of the remote monitoring system is based on Lab VIEW, which can display the lasers’ real-time parameters.(5) The performance test shows that the driving current accuracy of the Raman pump module is 0.1%, and the temperature stability is 0.556% in 72 hours.(6) Raman amplification experiments had been done by using Raman pump module for measuring the on-off gain and amplifying the C band signal light to flat power. Average on-off gain of 5.16 dB,8.04 dB,9.45 dB respectively with flatness of 0.52 dB, 0.90 dB,0.67 dB are achieved with only two pumps.In this dissertation, the Raman pump module can be applied to the demand of different fiber lengths, signal power, amplification gain. Therefore, the Raman pump module has strong practicability.
