On the Internet, social media have become a significant part of people’s life, and have wide and deep influence on modern people. The advent of WEB2.0 era transfers the Internet into “User Generated Content”or even “Nationwide Generated Content”from “Professional Generated Content”. Relying on the advancement of the network technology and intelligent terminal, the market of social media is expanding rapidly.For interchanging communication medium,pictures contain more information than words,and can be scanned and understood easily. The vision expression of pictures can make up the deficiency of words in emotion,so visualizing is the inevitable trend. Picture social media, first appeared in America, and started later but rapidly developed in China. Picture social contact has already played an important role in the market of social media. Thus, it is of great theoretical and practical significance to make a comparative study on picture social media of China and America, analyzing the future direction and disadvantages of domestic picture social media and seeking feasible solutions.Through a comparative study on picture social media of China and America, this paper analyzes all kinds of problems with domestic picture social media, such as weak content productivity and consumptive ability, excessive emphasis on instrumental function, lack of social attributes, vulnerable relation chain of users and single business model. For existing problems with domestic picture social media, it puts forward the following solutions and development ideas: domestic picture social media operators should operate the premium content deeply, accumulate relation chain of users, improve user’s viscosity, form diversified business modes and segment markets for the transformation, etc.
