With the widespread of smart-phones and the rapid development of mobile Internet, demand for location-based service (LBS) is growing, which greatly promoted the development of indoor positioning technology. In recent years, the indoor fingerprint positioning technology based on WiFi can achieve positioning simply in software, which has become one of the more popular indoor positioning technologies. In order to improve the timeliness and accuracy of positioning, this thesis proposes the region division based on the indoor pattern, then designs and implements the WiFi indoor positioning prototype system based fingerprint positioning on android platform.Firstly, the present research status of the indoor positioning technology at home and abroad is studied deeply after reading lots of related literatures. And the principles and characteristics of the indoor positioning technology based on WiFi are introduced and analyzed in detail, focus on the characteristics and the key factors.Secondly, an algorithm of region encoding division based indoor pattern is proposed after analyzing the traditional location fingerprint positioning technology and considering the aforementioned key factors. The simulation analysis to the improved algorithm is done using MATLAB. The results show that the accuracy and timeliness of the algorithm is improved, so the improved positioning algorithm is adopted in the positioning system.Then, the system design scheme is proposed based the demand analysis on the indoor positioning prototype system of Android, and also the topology architecture of the system is introduced, and each functional modules of the system client and server are designed in detail. At the same time, the software workflow is presented from the online and offline stage. Finally, the positioning system is implemented on the Eclipse platform using JAVA.Finally, the experimental environment for the indoor positioning system is constructed, with the development of a prototype system the offline database is created and the online positioning test is done in the experimental environment. The results are recorded and they are also used to make analysis for the positioning performance.
