With development of half century, radar has been widely utilized in civil or military used. Greatly changes have been happened due to its significant success.Front-ends is one of the most important components in the radar systems. It plays significant roles in the whole radar systems. So wide attention have been focused on the front-ends research. This paper mainly focus on the design of a transceiver front-end of Ka-band range measuring radar by Stepped-Frequency Continuous Wave.Under the guidance of the theory in the radar systems, researches on the principle and methods of the transceiver front-end of Ka-band range measuring radar by Stepped-Frequency Continuous Wave have been made. According to the design requirements, details on the technical target have been carefully considered. It’s whole scheme have been made. Receivers; transmitters, power supply and so on have been designed and fabricated. In can realize the systems’front debugging and measurement. The main works are as follows:First, according to the basic theory of the radar systems, the whole proposal and compact structure layouts fronts of the systems have been mad.Second, stepped-frequency source, phase-locked source, single-port mixer, and X3 amplifier have been designed.Third, the controlling program have been compiled and optimization of the compact cavity structure have been made.Fourth, fabrication and assembly work of this radar have been made. Meanwhile the whole fronts is debug and measured. Some analysis have been mand. The tested results shows that this Ka-band index. A stepped-frequency continuous wave is generated, its center frequency is 35GHz with a bandwidth of 1GHz, transmit power is no less than 13dBm, power flatness is less than 3dB, phase-noise is less than-73dBc/Hz@10kHz, spurious is smaller than -40dBc. The noise figure of the receiver is less than 5dB, gain is bigger than 40dB. Meanwhile it meets the requirement of compactness, and has some values in the practical application.
