Rendering technique is the main technique of cartoon film production. Realistic rendering is one of the effects that most 3D works pursuit and the key point of research focused on the authenticity. In recent years, with the higher and higher demand of the animation film and television industry to the rendering technique, the traditional two-dimensional material is more and more difficult to satisfy the requirements of animation, film and television industry. With the development of technology, realistic rendering increasingly tend to be based on the measurement of realistic material to improve the quality of rendering.Realistic material measurement through the material measure system to capture the information of all kinds of material in the real world, store the information into the Bidirectional Texture Function (Bidirectional Texture Function, BTF), and construct material library based on the measurement of BTF materials. Because BTF material can express the same kind material from different illumination directions and different angle of view directions, so compared with 2D texture it can be more realistically simulate the real world. BTF has gradually become the popular trend and development direction of 3D rendering. In many films and animation works, BTF starts to get consistent high praise and recognition. By using the BTF materials to render 3D models the rendering engine can realistically simulate real world objects and scenes. It can be applied to digital media, animation, film and television, entertainment and other fields.Multiple cameras and multiple lights system BTF Studio is a pre-research platform of Shandong University which used to the research of processing the 3D graphics and images. This system mainly get images from multiple illumination directions and multiple view directions to build and calculus the various lighting features of target object. This system consists of light source, camera, collection and storage unit, calibration object, the support object and so on, used for multi-angles lighting, multi-angles shooting, image data recording and processing, the control and calibration of movement of lights and cameras. The procedure of this system operation is: collection and processing platform control the light source, camera and the target object rotate around the center, light illuminate from different angles, camera shoot from different angles and store these images to the processing unit.The process after data acquisition called BTF post-processing which including BTF information extraction, BTF parametric model and the editing and BTF realistic rendering. BTF information extraction is mainly to extract the depth map and the normal map from materials of multiple lighting directions. Parameterizing and editing the BTF model is mainly to generate BRDF materials which are needed by rendering according to the collected materials, and to extract the relevant information of material rendering. BTF realistic rendering a step of show and synthesis of early isolated information from the acquisition materials, and is also the last step of realistic material acquisition. BTF realistic rendering needs to calculate the radiation of every point on the 3D model according to the light irradiance. A good rendering algorithm can more realistically simulate the light distribution on the surface of the model in the real world. This system can also use the light distribution on the surface of the micro materials we collected to the macro objects, to affect the light distribution of the macroscopic objects and rendering effects.Realistic material measurement system BTF Studio can process and render texture images we collected in real time, and besides it can display the collected material and the final rendering effect.
