The Research And Design Of General English Testing System

With the popularization of the network and the mature development of Web technology, the computer-assisted English testing system based on Web (hereinafter referred to as the "computer testing system") is being applied to English teaching and testing which begins to replace the traditional client testing system gradually. Most of the existing English testing system is designed and implemented for a particular test with related system functions. Through the high-speed processing capacity of computer, the speed rate of scoring can be improved, the cycle of the calculation and statistics of score can be shorten, the teachers’ labor intensity can be reduced, then the investment of manpower can be reduced. But because there are some problems in the existing testing system, such as the single test mode, the fixed question-types, the inconvenience of test interaction, the kinds of the existing testing system is various and the system can only be applied to a specific test, which cannot improve the universality and utilization of the system and increase the repeat workload of the developers to implement the similar testing system. Therefore, a general English testing system is studied and designed in this paper. In the process of the study and design, the universality of the system is improved principally, and the test auxiliary functions are studied and implemented, which makes the system use in a larger range and make the system more convenient to apply to all kinds of common English tests.The purpose of this paper is to implement the general English testing system with the support of various test mode, extension of question-types and more convenient test interaction. The author mainly does the following work based on the above purpose. First of all, through the investigation and analysis of the domestic and foreign existing testing system, the author summarizes the characteristics and limitations of the existing testing system. And the related technologies and theoretical basis is discussed. And, combined with the limitations of the existing English testing system, two aspects of the support of various test mode and extension of question-types are discussed and studied deeply. Then, the requirements of the system is obtained through the requirement engineering technology, including the system functional requirements and performance requirements. And, the overall structure of the system is designed. And the functional modules division is completed, including the modules of the management of the system side, the modules of the teachers’invigilation side, the modules of the real-time test side, the modules of the student side. Finally, combined with the React and idea of the modular development, the function of extension of question-types is implemented. Then, the testing auxiliary functions (including marking of the content, note-taking and adjustment of the layout of question content) is also implemented.In this paper, the research and design of general English testing system is completed and part of the core functional module is implemented. At present, the system has been used for testing, and it will be tested in some other universities. In the process of using, the system will be gradually improved. The two limitations of the single test mode and fixed question-types is effectively improved in general English testing system. And the interaction of testing auxiliary function is enhanced. The research and design of this system can improve the versatility of the system, reduce the repeated development of similar systems and lower the development costs. And it has good research significance and application prospect.
