Mobile data traffic and mobile devices have been exponentially growing, which pose a significant challenge to the mobile communication system. The fourth generation mobile communication system has been unable to meet the new challenge. And the fifth generation mobile communication system (5G) has been proposed to deal with the challenge. In order to improve the system capacity of the entire mobile system, and meet the growing demand of users, the small cell of the future network will be further distributed and miniaturized, forming the ultra dense network.The research on the cooperative network selection strategy between small cell base station has academic value and realistic meaning. From the point view of network, the cooperative network selection strategy can effectively balance the network load, control network traffic and improve the system performance. In the user term, the cooperative network selection strategy can get the optimal allocation of resources and improve the user experience. Therefore, the coordination between small cell base station in network selection strategy is an important research area. And this is also the focus of this paper.In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the fifth generation mobile communication system and the key technologies of the fifth generation mobile communication system. Then we propose a network selection strategy based on NDN (Named Data Networking) architecture. The contributions of this thesis are as follows:Firstly, we analyze the main characteristics and the key technologies of the fifth generation mobile communication system. We analyze the driving force of the the development of mobile communication system from macroscopic angle. What’s more, we also analyze the characteristics and the key technology of the fifth generation mobile communication system. Then, based on the characteristics and key technology of the fifth generation mobile communication system, we depict the research value of network selection strategy.Secondly, we introduce the NDN architecture into the fifth generation mobile communication system and we also improve NDN architecture in term of the application scenarios. Introducing the NDN architecture into the ultra dense network, which not only can satisfy the development of high data rate well and low latency but also have a good support of mobility. What’s more, we add four types of packets and two types of data structures according to the requirements of the network selection and handover scenarios. Moreover, we describe the process of nework selection and handover.Thirdly, we propose the network selection algorithm based on the user request. The research on traditional network selection algorithm only takes some parameters of network performance into consideration, which is based on the current network conditions. However, in our strategy, we take the condition of network and the user’s requests into consideration, which we can directly get the user’s request from the name of the contents after introducing the NDN architecture. The network selection algorithm is divided into three parts:the cache mechanism, the network selection mechanism and the handover mechanism. The previous three mechanisms take the content and network performance into consideration respectively from three aspects which can largely improve the user experience and balance the whole network data traffic.At last, we use the ndnSIM simulator to simulate the network selection strategy. Then we anylaze the performance of network selection strategy from three aspects:the traffic saving rate, the cache hit ratio and the variance of network load. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed network selection strategy can effectively improve the user experience, balance the network load, control the network traffic and improve the system performance.
