With the increasing service in modern communication network and computer network, the amount of data has been increased rapidly. Especially, the broad application of video services and smart phones makes our requirements for message capacity and bandwidth increase greatly day by day. In order to meet these requirements, many frontiers study on single-source Tb/s and above transmission. Frequency locked multicarrier light source is one of the key devices to achieve single-channel Tb/s and higher transmission rates and it has good prospects in the future. In the paper, the theoretical derivation and simulation analysis on multicarrier light generator based on external modulator has been studied. The main work is done as follows:1. Analyzed the current methods about multicarrier light source based on external modulator, and it can be divided into multicarrier light generator based on MZM, multicarrier light generator based on PM and multicarrier light generator based on PolM. Conducted out the theoretical derivation and simulation analysis about multicarrier light generator based on MZM and multicarrier light generator based on PM. Through adjusting the parameters which influence multicarrier light, Verified the theory of multicarrier light generator based on external modulator again, while produced the better multicarrier light source.2. Proposed two new methods about multicarrier source generator based on EAM, it can be divided into multicarrier light generator based on EAM cascaded PM and multicarrier light generator based on EAM cascaded PM cascaded IM. Carried out theoretical derivation and simulation analysis for the two methods and verified its feasibility. Using multicarrier light generator based on two EAM cascaded PM achieved multicarrier light source which have frequency interval of 15 GHz, in the range of 0.1 dB flatness and 19 subcarriers. Using multicarrier light generator based on EAM cascaded PM cascaded IM achieved multicarrier light source which have frequency interval of 10 GHz,33 subcarriers in the range of 3dB flatness, which have 15 subcarriers in the range of 0.3dB flatness. While analysised the influences of the paragrams on multicarrier source.3. Proposed a new method about multicarrier light source generator based on multi-frequency driven MZM. Conducted out the theoretical derivation andsimulation analysis of this scheme. While achieved 5 equal amplitude of the multicarrier light source. When increased the voltage of the driving signal, achieved 23 subcarriers in the range of 4dB.
